It is said that this garden was designed by Muso Soseki “夢窓 疎石” who was a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monk and garden designer.  It is a Japanese strolling garden,  kaiyū-shiki-teien 回遊式庭園 literally “a landscape garden in the go-round style”.
