“Gyudon” Beef Bowl

“Gyudon” is a representative fast food of Japanese cuisine.

Today’s lunch is “Gyudon”.
This rice bowl is topped with beef and onion simmered in a mildly sweet dashi sauce flavored with soy sauce, mirin and sake.  Toppings are very similar to “Sukiyaki”.

Prototype of beef bowl was born in the Meiji period 1890s.

Then, Matsuda Eikichi, who founded “Yoshinoya” gyudon restaurant in 1899,  named “Gyudon”, previously known as “Gyu-Meshi”.
By Yoshinoya expanded the franchise chain from 1973, Gyudon has been so familiar to the general.

Now there are three large chain restaurants, YoshinoyaMatsuya and Sukiya.
