Salt-Grilled Sardin of Hokkaido
Plump and fat sardines from Hokkaido (north region of Japan), where is just in season!
These are “Ma-Iwashi” Sardinops melanostictus, written “真鰯” in Kanji literally “genuine delicate fish”.
Also it’s called “Nanatsu-Boshi” “七つ星” literally “seven stars”, because seven black spots are lined up in a row in the body. But these dose not have seven spots exactly.
Aristocracy at that time was not able to eat sardines, and so she ate grilled sardines in secret to her husband.
The Tale of Genji and grilled sardine, these are interesting to me.
