Bright red tomatoes give me vitality, appetite and happiness.

Tomato is commonly called tomato, the same name as the English.
But it has also various Japanese name.  “Toshi” is written “唐柿” literally “Chinese Kaki Persimmon”, “Aka-Nasu”  “赤茄子” literally “red eggplant”, etc.

It was first brought to Nagasaki of Japan for the Edo period.  At that time it was ornamental, not edible.

Summer of Japan is too hot and humid for tomato.
