Sashimi of “Kensaki-Ika / Daruma-Ika” Loligo Edulis
Loligo Edulis has various local names. Among them, a typical name is “Kensaki-Ika” and “Daruma-Ika”.
These are Loligo edulis (Decapodiformes). They are called “Kensaki-Ika” in Kansai region, and “Daruma-Ika” in Kanto region.
“Kensaki-Ika” is written in Kanji “剣先烏賊” literally “a tip of a blade squid”, derived from the spear-shaped.
Daruma of “Daruma-Ika” is come from a daruma doll, which shape is round. Because it is more round in shape compared with a spear squid (Heterololigo bleekeri).
Now in this season it is a squid you will see most often at the fish shop in Japan.
The body color and pattern of pink, bordeaux purple and pale yellow looks like a feminine autumnal dress.
