Omurice with Yokohama Ketchup
Omurice (omelette + rice) is Japanese-English word.
Fried ketchup rice wrapped in a thin omelet. It is popular with children.
- Fry chopped vegetables (today I use onion, bell pepper and canned tuna), season with salt and pepper
- Add rice and stir fry until a little bit brown
- Put ketchup
- Wrap rice with omelet
Ketchup is indispensable to the omurice.
The first domestic “TOMATO CATSUP”, which is not spelled ketchup, was released by Shimizuya of Yokohama in 1903 (the Meiji period).
Shimizuya stopped the production about 1935, now “Yokohamaya Honpo” company is selling the reprint product.
I am awkward at handling omellet for omurice. ——————————————–
