“Nanakusa-Gayu” Rice Porridge
White rice and green herbs with the bowl of red Japanese lacquer, feeling energetic.
Eating seven-herb rice porridge (Nanakusa-Gayu) on January 7th, I hope the state of perfect health throughout the year.
Seven spring herbs are :
1. Water Dropwort “Seri”
2. Shepherd’s Purse “Nazuna” (PenPen-Gusa)
3. Cudweed “Gogyo” (Hahakogusa)
4. Chickweed “Hakobera” (Kohakobe)
5. Nipplewort “Hotoke no Za” (Kooni-Tabirako)
6. Turnip “Suzuna” (Kabu)
7. Radish “Suzushiro” (Daikon)
Sunny winter day
I feel good to find a green among the bright sunshine.
Recently they are sold with one package collectively in supermarkets.
Cook the rice in much more water than usual, gently mixing with the spoon occasionally not to be stuck to the bottom of the pot.
Add a pinch of salt and the chopped herbs last.
